During the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference held in Shanghai, China’s President Xi Jinping and Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reinforced the substantial strategic alliance between their nations. The meeting underscored a commitment to bolster collaboration through the alignment of development strategies and the expansion of joint ventures in various sectors such as trade, cross-border e-commerce, energy, and transport. Furthermore, digital economy initiatives were highlighted as a key area for growth.
President Xi emphasized the importance of collaboration in emerging fields like artificial intelligence, education, and healthcare. He also stressed the value of strengthening ties in science, culture, and through multilateral platforms including the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. This dialogue aimed at enhancing the longstanding relationship between the two countries by exploring new avenues of cooperation.
President Tokayev acknowledged China’s role as Kazakhstan’s foremost foreign policy partner. He expressed a strong desire to deepen cooperation across a spectrum of areas including trade, investment, transportation, agriculture, and energy. Tokayev also highlighted the significance of AI governance as a field ripe for shared governance and mutual advancement.
Following their discussions, the two leaders observed the signing of multiple cooperation agreements. These agreements covered key areas such as trade, transport, finance, and media, signaling a continued commitment to expanding bilateral relations. The agreements are expected to facilitate enhanced connectivity and exchange between the two nations, fostering shared growth and innovation.
