Israeli President Isaac Herzog plans to recommend four passengers for the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism following their courageous actions on a flydubai flight from Dubai to Israel. The passengers, Yaniv Hayoun, Dr. Shota Musayev, Zvika Manes, and Asaf Rajuan, played a crucial role in averting a potential disaster by subduing an attacker in the cockpit.
The incident occurred when a pilot was injured after being attacked by the co-pilot, prompting the passengers to step in. Hayoun, Manes, and Rajuan were instrumental in restraining the attacker, while Hayoun also assisted with the aircraft’s controls. Meanwhile, Dr. Musayev provided medical aid to the injured pilot until the plane made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.
President Herzog expressed his admiration for the passengers, highlighting their bravery and quick thinking that ensured the safety of everyone on board. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Indian captain, Smit Machchhar, for his role in managing the situation during the flight.
The President stated that he would present the actions of these passengers to the advisory committee responsible for determining the recipients of the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism. This recognition underscores the importance of civilian courage in emergency situations and the significant impact it can have on saving lives.
