Russia’s Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, issued a stark statement this week, declaring that Russia cannot be defeated in its ongoing war with Ukraine. Speaking at an event in Gurugram, the ambassador presented this outcome as a certainty.
The core of his argument rests on Moscow’s nuclear capabilities. He stated bluntly, “You can’t, you know, take over us in this conflict simply because of nuclear weapons. Simply because of our nuclear weapons.”
Alipov elaborated on the nation’s official policy, reminding the audience of Russia’s military doctrine. He noted that “if there is an existential threat to us, there is a possibility of its use,” explicitly linking the potential for nuclear escalation to the war’s outcome.
He dismissed European hopes for a Ukrainian victory as “childish behavior” and “craziness.” He characterized the belief that Russia could be militarily defeated as “unprofessional.”
In contrast, he credited President Donald Trump with recognizing what he described as the reality of the situation. Alipov claimed, “Trump understands that this war is lost by Ukraine and the West,” even as the conflict, now approaching its fourth year, continues to be fueled by Western aid.
